Making a Home: Create your own style!

Your home is a reflection of your personality, of your family, of what matters to you.  Are you creating the atmosphere you desire? Projecting the image that's most true?

Believe me when I say, you don't need big bucks to create a home to be proud of.  One that makes you smile when you walk in the door.  One that feels just right.  In fact, I think that limited funds leads to a better result: you're forced to be more creative, to find inventive ways to develop  your vision.  Not to mention the fact that you're often forced to make due with what you have, and prioritize your new acquisitions. You end up with a space that looks more like you and less like a catalog.  Something warmer and more approachable, even if you're style is minimalist.

We bought a house in 2013 - a foreclosure with great bones and a great yard in a great neighborhood, but in need of lots of cosmetic updates.  Consequently, there's lots of DIY going on around here, and probably will be for at least a few more years.

I'm so excited to share our experiences with you, and here's why:

I've run across a lot of clever and creative folks who struggle with making their house a home....who are so anxious about committing to anything that they instead commit to plain white walls and beige everything.

My hope is that I can inspire your bravery.  I'll take the risks and you can see the results.  I keep saying this because it's absolutely true: if I can do it, you can do it! I'm no expert, and I'm not at all anal-retentive about details.  If a project is out of reach for the "average joe," I will happily say so and save you the time and trouble. And you can share in the victories of a project that turns out well, feeling confident that you can have the same or better results, and you can laugh at my disasters rather than cry over your own.

Here's to Making a Home!
